No print jobs are displayed in the IPP print queue on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You enable Internet Printing on a print server that is running Windows Server 2000 or Windows Server 2003.
  • You add a printer by using Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) from the printer server on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.

Note The printer is displayed in the Devices and Printers folder.
  • You print some documents. Then, you double-click the printer in the Devices and Printers folder to see the IPP printer queue.
In this scenario, no print jobs are displayed in the queue.

Note You can still use the IPP printer to print documents when the issue occurs.

Cause

The issue occurs because Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 call the EnumJobs function by using level 4 as a parameter to enumerate print jobs. However, IPP printers can only return information when level 1 or level 2 is specified as a parameter. IPP printers return the ERROR_INVALID_LEVEL value when level 4 is used as a parameter.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, apply the hotfix on an IPP client that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. After you apply this hotfix, the EnumJobs function is called by using level 2 when the ERROR_INVALID_LEVEL value is returned.
