Symptoms

When you use Performance Monitor (Perfmon.exe) to monitor the page file usage, you do not receive data for a page file that is located on drive B. This issue occurs on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2003, or Windows Server 2003 R2.

Note Performance Monitor is a snap-in in Microsoft Management Console (MMC).

Cause

This issue is caused by a design limitation of Performance Monitor.

The drive B has traditionally been reserved for a floppy disk drive and has not been traditionally used for a hard disk drive. Therefore, Performance Monitor is not coded to collect the page file data from drive B.

Workaround

To work around this issue, do not configure a page file on drive B. Instead, move the page file to a different drive such as the drive C.
