The Group Policy preference settings for the "Terminal Session" item-level targeting item are not applied in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have Remote Desktop Services installed on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • You configure the Group Policy preference settings for the Terminal Session item-level targeting item on the computer.
  • You log on to the computer from a Remote Desktop connection.
In this scenario, no Group Policy preference settings that are configured to the Terminal Session item-level targeting item are applied correctly.

For example, you configure the following Group Policy preference settings for the Terminal Session item-level targeting item:
  • Type or protocol: Any
  • Parameter: Client TCP/IP address
  • Parameter value: Between <start IP address> and <end IP address>

Note You can select any of the options that are available in the Type or protocol field, the Parameter field, or the Parameter value field. This issue occurs regardless of which options you select.
In this example, these Group Policy preference settings should be applied when a customer from an IP address within the set range logs on to the computer. However, the Group Policy preference settings are not applied.
