You cannot generate FSRM reports in Windows Server 2008 if the policy for the United States FIPS compliant algorithms is enabled

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

You cannot generate reports by using the File Server Resource Manager service on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 after you enable the following policy:
System cryptography: Use FIPS compliant algorithms for encryption, hashing and signing

Cause

The File Server Resource Manager service uses the Message Digest 5 (MD5) algorithm to calculate some hash values. However, the MD5 algorithm is not a compliant algorithm of the United States Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) for encryption. Therefore, you cannot use the reporting functionality in the File Server Resource Manager service.
