Symptoms

On a computer that is running Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2, you may receive the following Stop error when the computer is under heavy load.
Stop 0x00000050 (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

Note
  • The parameters in this Stop error message may vary, depending on the configuration of the computer.
  • Not all "0x00000050" Stop error messages are caused by this problem.

Note This Stop error occurs in the Srv.sys driver that is used by the Server service. This issue may occur when users access a shared resource on the computer remotely.

Cause

This issue occurs because of a race condition in Server service driver (Srv.sys). The race condition occurs when the Server service driver checks a structure and does not have the expected spin lock. This behavior causes an access violation exception in the Server service driver. Therefore, the operating system triggers the Stop error.

Additionally, the dates and the times may change when you perform certain operations on the files.
Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 file information notes
Important Windows Vista hotfixes and Windows Server 2008 hotfixes are included in the same packages. However, only "Windows Vista" is listed on the Hotfix Request page. To request the hotfix package that applies to one or both operating systems, select the hotfix that is listed under "Windows Vista" on the page. Always refer to the "Applies To" section in articles to determine the actual operating system that each hotfix applies to.
  • The files that apply to a specific product, SR_Level (RTM, SPn), and service branch (LDR, GDR) can be identified by examining the file version numbers as shown in the following table.
