The option to select an alternative file source does not display when you use Internet Explorer 8 to view a PDF document that contains an embedded media

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You use Windows Internet Explorer 8 to browse a PDF document that contains an embedded media file.
  • You enable protected mode in Internet Explorer 8.
  • You try to select an alternative source to open the media file.
In this scenario, the Select Multimedia File dialog box does not open as expected.

Note Adobe PDF documents support embedded media and the ability to allow an alternative file source to open the media if the current path cannot be accessed.
