The history.length value is calculated incorrectly in Internet Explorer 8 when the Automatic Crash Recovery feature is enabled

Symptoms

Consider this scenario. You have an application that uses the history.length property to retrieve the number of elements listed in the Internet Explorer history list. You run this application on a computer that has Windows Internet Explorer 8 installed. In this scenario, the history.length value may be incorrectly calculated. This issue may occur several seconds after a Web page loads even when no page navigation occurs.

Note This issue occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • The Automatic Crash Recovery feature is enabled in Internet Explorer 8.
  • The Web page includes an input element.

Note You can find the Enable automatic crash recovery check box under the Advanced tab in the Internet Options dialog box, on the Tools menu.
