An IMAP4 client crashes when accessing an Exchange Server 2010 mailbox

Symptoms

A user access a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 mailbox by using an Internet Message Access Protocol 4 (IMAP4) client. The IMAP4 client crashes if there are S/MIME messages in the mailbox.

Cause

This problem occurs because Exchange Server 2010 returns negative values for message size, which is incompatible with RFC.

To resolve this problem, install the following update rollup:
