Windows Server 2008 is unresponsive because of a deadlock in Sis.sys

Symptoms

A computer that is running Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (SP2) may stop responding for a while if the Single Instance Storage (SIS) feature is enabled.

This problem occurs because of a deadlock situation in the SIS filter driver (Sis.sys).

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Prerequisites

To apply this hotfix, your computer must be running Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (SP2). Additionally, the SIS feature must be installed on the computer.
