You cannot use DirectAccess to connect to a corporate network from a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

Consider the following scenario:

• You have a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
• You open the Group Policy Management Editor window, and then you configure the Name Resolution Policy Table (NRPT) to use DNS server name instead of using the IP address.
• You try to connect to a corporate network by using the DirectAccess feature.
• You receive a DNS response that only includes a CNAME record. The DNS response does not have a DNS IPv6 (AAAA) resource record from the DNS server.

In this scenario, the fail-over action is not successful when the DNS query on the computer is failed over to the next configured DNS server. This behavior does not let you connect to the corporate network.

To resolve this issue, apply this hotfix on the computer that has the DirectAccess feature enabled. After you apply this hotfix, you receive a DNS response that does not include an AAAA resource record and then the computer falls back to use the DNS server that is configured in NRPT.
