The Boot.wim file on the head node grows excessively in size after HPC Pack 2008 Service Pack 1 is installed

Symptoms

After you install HPC Pack 2008 Service Pack 1, the Boot.wim file on the head node slowly grows excessively in size. The increase in size�may cause high memory utilization on the HPC Head node.

Resolution

Important Check the current size of the Boot.wim file that is located in following folder:

%CCP_HOME%\data\boot\x64\
If the size of the Boot.wim file is larger than 200 megabytes (MB), you must repair the file. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. In the media or file share that you used to capture the deployment image, locate the original Boot.wim file (\sources\boot.wim).
  2. Copy the original Boot.wim file, and then replace the Boot.wim file that is located in the following folder:

    %CCP_HOME%\data\boot\x64\
    
  3. Start HPC Cluster Manager, and then click Configuration.
  4. In the To-do List, click Configure your network.
  5. Change the current network topology to something other than what you have, and then complete the wizard.
  6. Click�Configure your network again, set the network topology back to its original state, and then complete the wizard again.

Note The Boot.wim file is now repaired. Make sure that you have applied the update that is described in the �Update information� section so that the file�s size does not grow excessively again.

Installation instructions

To start the download:
  1. click the Download button
  2. Click Save to copy the download to your computer.
  3. Run the download file on the head node.
Note If you have a pair of HA head nodes, run this update on the Active node and then on the Passive node.

Restart requirement

You may have to restart the computer after you install this update.
