Symptoms

After you decrease the value of the MaxPendingRequests registry key for Microsoft iSCSI Initiator, the maximum number of pending I/O requests is not decreased.

Workaround

To work around this issue, specify the maximum number of requests per session on the iSCSI target device.

Note When the iSCSI initiator negotiates with the iSCSI target, it uses the maximum value exposed by the target.

Steps to Reproduce the Problem

  1. Set the value of the MaxPendingRequests registry key to 40 (0x28 hexadecimal).
  2. Restart the computer.
  3. Prepare the iSCSI connection environment.
  4. Run a test application that can issue 100 read or write I/Os to the disk.
We expect that only 40 read or write I/Os are measured by a hardware log. However, 100 read or write I/Os (SCSI command) are measured by a hardware log.
