Error message when some file system filter drivers that are transaction-aware are installed on a failover cluster node that is running Windows Server 2008 R2 and that has FSRM installed: "6704 (0x1A30) ERROR_TRANSACTION_ALREADY_ABORTED"

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • The Failover Clustering feature is installed on some computers that are running Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • Some file system filter drivers that are transaction-aware are installed on the failover cluster node. For example, the following filter drivers may use the transaction manager:
    • An FSRM Quota filter driver
    • An antivirus filter driver
    • A Hierarchical Storage Management system filter driver
    • An archival system filter driver
  • An application or a service creates a transaction and then commits it.
In this scenario, the CommitTransaction function call fails together with the following error message:
6704 (0x1A30) ERROR_TRANSACTION_ALREADY_ABORTED
Description: It is too late to perform the requested operation, since the Transaction has already been aborted.

Hotfix information
