You cannot migrate or import the Hyper-V role and the RRAS role service by using the Windows Server Migration Tools feature in Windows Server 2008 R2

The Windows Server Migration Tools feature in Windows Server 2008 R2 lets you migrate or import some roles, features, role services, operating system data, and file shares. Specifically, you can migrate or import these elements from a computer that is running Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, or Windows Server 2008 R2 to a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2. The following are examples of software and settings that you can migrate by using Windows Server Migration Tools.:

• Server roles, such as the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) Server role or the File Services role
• Role services, such as the File Server Resource Manager (FSRM) role service
• The Windows BranchCache feature
  
• Settings of the operating system, such as IP configurations, and local users and groups
• Data and file shares

However, you cannot use the Windows Server Migration Tools feature to migrate or import the following:

• The Hyper-V role
  
  Note The Hyper-V role can be migrated only from a computer that is running Windows Server 2008. Or, this role can be imported only from a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2. This exception applies only to the Hyper-V role.
• The Routing and Remote Access service (RRAS) role service

After you install the following update, you can use the Windows Server Migration Tools feature to migrate the Hyper-V role and the RRAS role service.

• GDR service branches contain only those fixes that are widely released to address widespread, extremely important issues. LDR service branches contain hotfixes in addition to widely released fixes.
• The MANIFEST files (.manifest) and the MUM files (.mum) that are installed for each environment are listed separately in the "Additional file information for the Windows Server Migration Tools feature" section. MUM and MANIFEST files, and the associated security catalog (.cat) files, are very important to maintain the state of the updated components. The security catalog files, for which the attributes are not listed, are signed with a Microsoft digital signature.
