FIX: Some schemas are lost when you add a schema-based WCF Service to a BizTalk project as a service reference

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a computer that is running Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 R2 or BizTalk Server 2009.
  • You publish some schemas as a Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) service, and you configure the WCF service correctly.
  • You add the WCF service to a BizTalk project as a service reference.
In this scenario, you cannot build the BizTalk project. Additionally, you may receive various error messages. For example, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:
Schema reference "<schema1.xsd>" is not a valid reference or does not exist in the current project. in <schema.xsd>

Cause

This problem occurs because some schemas are lost when you add the schema-based WCF service to the BizTalk project as a service reference.

Resolution

Cumulative update information

For BizTalk Server 2009, the hotfix that resolves this issue is included in Cumulative Update 1 for BizTalk Server 2009.

Workaround

To work around this problem, manually locate the missing schemas files (.xsd). Add these schemas and their references in other schemas to the BizTalk project. Then, rebuild the project.
