Error message when you try to resume a Windows 7-based or a Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer from hibernation: "Stop 0x0000009F"


Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a Windows 7 or a Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer.
  • You connect a 1394a external hard disk drive to a 1394a PCI card on the computer.
  • You try to resume the computer from hibernation (the S4 system power state).

In this scenario, the computer does wake up and you receive a Stop error message that resembles the following:

STOP: 0x0000009F (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)
DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article.
