You are repeatedly prompted to insert a new disk when you use the Backup and Restore tool in Windows 7 or the Windows Server Backup tool in Windows Server 2008 R2 to back up your files or to create a system image on a recordable Blu-ray disc (BD-R)

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • You back up your files or you create a system image on a recordable Blu-ray disc (BD-R) by using one of the following backup tools:
    • The Backup and Restore tool in Windows 7.
    • The Windows Server Backup tool in Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • The backup tool prompts you to insert a new disc.
  • You follow the instruction to insert a new disc.
In this scenario, the backup tool repeatedly prompts you to insert a new disc and writes the same data to each disk that you insert. Therefore, the backup operation is never completed.

Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 file information notes
  • The files that apply to a specific product, milestone (RTM, SPn), and service branch (LDR, GDR) can be identified by examining the file version numbers as shown in the following table:
    Collapse this tableExpand this table
    VersionProductMilestoneService branch
    6.1.760 0.16xxxWindows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2RTMGDR
    6.1.760 0.20xxxWindows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2RTMLDR
