View products that this article applies to.

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:

  • The File Server Resource Manager service under the File Services role is installed on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008.
  • You configure the File Server Resource Manager service to send an e-mail notification to the users.

In this scenario, the e-mail notifications are sent to the users after more than a 15-minute delay.

For example, when a quota limit is reached or when a file screen occurs the e-mail notifications are sent to users after more than a 15-minute delay.

CAUSE

The File Server Resource Manager service uses an incorrect sequence for the authentication method to connect to the remote Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server. Therefore, a delay of approximately 15 minutes occurs before the e-mail notifications are delivered.
