PCI devices are unexpectedly enabled after you resume a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system from hibernation

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

You disable a Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) device on a computer that is running Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. However, the PCI device is enabled unexpectedly after you resume the system from hibernation.

Cause

This problem occurs because the PCI device is enabled when the system resumes from hibernation. This causes the PCI device to respond to registered queries at an address range that is assigned to a Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA) slot. Therefore, power IRPs that are sent to the PCMCIA device are never completed.

Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 file information notes
Important Windows Vista hotfixes and Windows Server 2008 hotfixes are included in the same packages. However, only "Windows Vista" is listed on the Hotfix Request page. To request the hotfix package that applies to one or both of these operating systems, select the hotfix that is listed under "Windows Vista" on the page. Always refer to the "Applies To" section in articles to determine the actual operating system that each hotfix applies to.
