VSS snapshot creation may fail after a LUN resynchronization on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • You create Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) snapshots for some volumes.
  • Then, you perform a logical unit number (LUN) resynchronization on these volumes.
  • After the LUN resynchronization, you create more VSS snapshots for the volumes.
In this scenario, the snapshot creation operation fails. However, if you retry this operation later, or after you restart the VSS service, the operation may be successful.
