The Nslookup.exe utility does not use all the suffixes in the DNS suffix search list if the total length of the DNS suffix search list is longer than 255 characters on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista

Symptoms

On a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista, the Nslookup.exe utility does not use all the suffixes in the DNS suffix search list if the total length of the list exceeds 255 characters. This behavior causes the Nslookup.exe utility to use only the first 255 characters in the list.

Cause

The Nslookup.exe utility incorrectly sets the maximum length of the DNS suffix search list to 255 characters.

Resolution

Note After you install the hotfix, the maximum length limit of 255 characters for the DNS suffix search list is removed. Instead, an array is used to store the DNS suffix search list. The maximum length limit of the array is 50*255 characters.
