Low performance when you transfer a large file between an external IEEE 1394 device and a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • The computer has at least 4GB of RAM.
  • You transfer a large file between the computer and an external IEEE 1394 device.
In this scenario, the file transfer operation is very slow.

Note To verify this problem, you can try to transfer a large file between the IEEE 1394 device and a computer that has less than 4GB of RAM installed. If the transfer operation speed is not very slow, you should consider applying this hotfix on the computer that has at least 4GB of RAM.

This problem occurs because of an error in the 1394ohci.sys driver.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. To apply this hotfix, your must have a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.

Restart requirement

You must restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

The English (United States) version of this hotfix installs files that have the attributes that are listed in the following tables. The dates and the times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). The dates and the times for these files on your local computer are displayed in your local time and with your current daylight saving time (DST) bias. Additionally, the dates and the times may change when you perform certain operations on the files.

Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 file information notes
Important Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 hotfixes are included in the same packages. However, only one of these products may be listed on the �Hotfix Request� page. To request the hotfix package that applies to both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, just select the product that is listed on the page.
  • The files that apply to a specific product, milestone (RTM, SPn), and service branch (LDR, GDR) can be identified by examining the file version numbers as shown in the following table:
