Symptoms

In a Windows Server 2008 cluster, the cluster GUI may issue wrong startup parameters for the generic service resource. When you try to bring the resource online, it might not start, and you receive the following error message:

More information

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

Steps to reproduce the problem

  1. In the console tree of the Failover Cluster Management console, expand the cluster name.
  2. Expand Services and Applications. You see the generic resource.
  3. Right-click Nav Database resource in the central pane, and then click Properties.
  4. Click the General tab. In the Startup parameters, you can see that the full path of the Server.exe file is displayed. This is wrong.
Remove the path, and then type a blank character. After you do this, the NAV Database resource comes online.
