Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

How to back up and restore the registry in Windows
- Download and then install the hotfix package.
- Start Registry Editor. To do this, click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
- Locate and then select the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem
- On the Edit menu, point to New , and then click DWORD Value .
- Type NtfsResetFileSparseAttributeOnDeletingLastSparseStream, and then press the Enter Key.
- Right-click NtfsResetFileSparseAttributeOnDeletingLastSparseStream, and then click Modify.
- In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
- Exit Registry Editor.
Note After you install this hotfix package, and then configure the
NtfsResetFileSparseAttributeOnDeletingLastSparseStream registry entry, you have to restart the computer to enable this hotfix on the NFTS file system.
File information
The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the
Time Zone tab in the
Date and Time item in Control Panel.

- In addition to the files that are listed in these tables, this software update also installs an associated security catalog file (KBnumber.cat) that is signed with a Microsoft digital signature.
