The advanced security settings for Windows Firewall that you deploy by using a Group Policy object (GPO) are not displayed in Windows Vista or in Windows 2008

Consider the following scenario:

• In a domain environment, you use a Group Policy object (GPO) on a server to deploy advanced security settings for Windows Firewall to some client computers.
• You log on a client computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008.
• To check the Windows Firewall settings for your user profile on the client computer, you type the following command at a command prompt, and then press ENTER:
  netsh advfirewall show all profiles

In this scenario, the advanced security settings for Windows Firewall that you have deployed are not displayed. Only the local security settings for Windows Firewall are displayed.

However, in Windows Firewall with Advanced Security, the advanced security settings for Windows Firewall are displayed as expected.

Note To open Windows Firewall with Advanced Security, at a command prompt type the following command, and then press ENTER:
wf.msc

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Restart requirement

You have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

Registry information

To use one of the hotfixes in this package, you do not have to make any changes to the registry.

File information

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.

• The files that apply to a specific product or milestone (RTM, SPn) can be identified by examining the file version numbers as shown in the following table:

• The MANIFEST files (.manifest) and the MUM files (.mum) that are installed for each environment are listed separately . MUM and MANIFEST files, and the associated security catalog (.cat) files, are critical to maintaining the state of the updated component. The security catalog files (attributes not listed) are signed with a Microsoft digital signature.
