View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

On a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, you may receive one of the following Stop errors:
  • 0x0000000A (<parameter1>, <parameter2>, <parameter3>, <parameter4>) IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
  • 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, <parameter2>, <parameter3>, <parameter4>) SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
Note These Stop errors may also be caused by other problems.

These Stop errors occur in the Ancillary Function Driver (AFD) driver (Afd.sys). This problem occurs when Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 performs network related operations by using the Server Message Block (SMB) protocol.
