An application calling the IDirectorySearch::GetNextRow method stops responding after the application runs for a long time on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003

Symptoms

On a computer that is running Windows Server 2003, an application that calls the GetNextRow method of the IDirectorySearch interface stops responding after the application runs for a long time. For example, this issue may occur after the application runs for 10 to 12 hours.

Cause

This problem occurs because the auto-reconnect logic that the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) clients use is incorrect when the LDAP clients try to reconnect connections. This incorrect logic causes an infinite loop on the LDAP client-side.

Resolution

A hotfix is available to resolve this issue. This hotfix fixes the auto-reconnect logic for the LDAP clients.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
