You cannot open a custom pop-up menu when you right-click an area of a Web page in Internet Explorer 8

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You develop an application that hosts a Web Object Control (WebOC). The WebOC loads a Web page into this application.
  • You create a custom pop-up menu for this Web page by using the IHTMLWindow4::createPopup method.

Note The IHTMLWindow4::createPopup method enables you to open a pop-up menu when you right-click an area of a Web page.
  • You retrieve the HTML document for the custom pop-up menu by using the IHTMLPopup::document property.
  • You try to call the QueryInterface method for the ICustomDoc interface to point to the HTML document that you want to use for the custom pop-up menu.
In this scenario, you run the application on a computer that is running Internet Explorer 8. However, when you right-click an area of the Web page, the custom pop-up menu does not appear. If you try to debug this problem, the HRESULT 0x80004002 (E_NOINTERFACE) value is returned to the QueryInterface method. However, you expect the HRESULT 0x0 (S_OK) value to be returned to the QueryInterface method.
