After you disconnect from a remote desktop session to a destination computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, the default printer is changed when you log on the destination computer from the console

Symptoms

You disconnect from a remote desktop session to a destination computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008. When you log on the destination computer from the console, the default printer is changed on the destination computer. For example, you may notice that there is no default printer or that the default printer is changed to another printer.

Important You must apply this hotfix on the destination computer.

Hotfix information

Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Prerequisites

To apply this hotfix on a destination computer that is running Windows Vista, you must have Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2) installed. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

No prerequisites are required for destination computers that are running Windows Server 2008.

You must restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

File information

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. More information

The default printer will not be changed if one of the following conditions are true for the remote desktop session that you just disconnected from:
  • The Do not allow client printer redirection Group Policy is enabled on the client computer.
  • The Do not set default client printer to be default printer in a session Group Policy is enabled on the client computer.
