Error message when you install the Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 Web Access client on Windows Server 2008: “Failed to schedule install of IIS Virtual Directories”

Symptoms

When you install the Microsoft Forecaster Web Access client on Windows Server 2008, you receive the following error message:
Failed to schedule install of IIS Virtual Directories

Cause

This issue occurs because the Forecaster Web Access client is incompatible with Windows Server 2008.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Download the Forecaster installer from the following Microsoft Web sites as appropriate. Forecaster 7.0:

    https://mbs.microsoft.com/customersource/downloads/servicepacks/frxforecaster70sp3
  2. Turn off the User Account Control (UAC) on the server. To do this, follow these steps.
    1. Open Control Panel.
    2. Click User Account and Family settings, and then click Add or remove user account.
    3. Click one of the user accounts. For example, click the Guest account.
    4. Under the user account, click Go on the main User Account page.
    5. Under Make changes to your user account, click Change security settings.
    6. In the Turn on User Account Control (UAC) to make your computer more secure section, clear the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer check box, and then click OK.
    7. You are prompted to restart your computer.

  3. Install Forecaster 7.0. Do not include the Web Access components in the installation.
  4. Install Forecaster 7.0 SP3 to upgrade the Forecaster client installation.
  5. Run the installation for Forecaster 7.0 SP3 again to install Web Access.
  6. Click Add or Remove Features.
  7. Click Forecaster, and then click Web Access.
