FIX: A BizTalk host instance stops and an Event ID 5410 is logged in the Application log in BizTalk Server 2006 or BizTalk Server 2009

Symptoms

In Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 or BizTalk Server 2009, a BizTalk host instance crashes and cannot restart. Additionally, an event that resembles the following is logged in the Application log:
Event ID: 5410: Description: An error occurred that requires the BizTalk service to terminate. The most common 
causes are the following:
1) An unexpected out of memory error.
OR
2) An inability to connect or a loss of connectivity to one of the BizTalk 
databases. 
The service will shutdown and auto-restart in 1 minute. If the problematic 
database remains unavailable, this cycle will repeat.

Error message: Arithmetic overflow error converting expression to data type int.
Error source: 

BizTalk host name: BizTalkServerApplication 
Windows service name: BTSSvc$BizTalkServerApplication

Cause

The issue occurs because a column is defined incorrectly as the INT data type in a stored procedure of the BizTalkMsgBoxDB database. Therefore, when the number in this column exceeds the limit of the INT data type, an arithmetic overflow error occurs.

Note The upper limit of the INT data type is 2,147,483,647.

Cumulative updated information

For BizTalk Server 2009, the hotfix that resolves this issue is included in Cumulative Update 1 for BizTalk Server 2009.

To resolve this problem, install the following hotfix. After you install this hotfix, the column in the stored procedure is defined as the BIGINT data type.
