You receive a Segmentation fault error when you run commands in the tcsh shell if the shell has lots of environment variables on a computer that is running an x64-based version of Windows Server 2003 R2

Symptoms

You install the Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications (SUA) component on a computer that is running an x64-based version of Windows Server 2003 R2. You add lots of environment variables to the tcsh shell. When you run some commands, such as the date command, you receive a Segmentation fault error.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

To apply this hotfix, the SUA component must be installed on a computer that is running an x64-based version of Windows Server 2003 R2 Service Pack 2 (SP2).

You must restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.
