Windows Server 2003 does not restart as expected if a recursive error occurs while writing a dump file

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • A computer that is running Windows Server 2003 is configured to restart automatically if a fatal error occurs, and then write a dump file.
  • A fatal error occurs.
  • A second fatal error (recursive error) occurs while the dump file is being written.
In this scenario, the computer does not restart automatically.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, apply hotfix 978243. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
