The memory usage of the Svchost.exe process for Windows Deployment Services keeps increasing after you install hotfix 960489 or install Windows Server 2008 SP2

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You install the Windows Deployment Services server role on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008.
  • On this computer, you install the hotfix 960489 or install the Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (SP2).
In this scenario, the Private Bytes counter of the Windows Deployment Services keeps increasing. This behavior causes a Svchost.exe process to keep increasing its memory consumption.

After the issue lasts for a long time, the computer experiences a low memory resource situation. Therefore, the applications or services that are running on the computer may crash or may encounter other function failures.
