The cache information for only the first 32 processors is reported if the number of processors is greater than 32 on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 SP2

Symptoms

You have a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) and that has more than 32 multichip module processors. However, you can view the cache information for only the first 32 processors on this computer.

For example, if you call the GetLogicalProcessorInformation function to query the processor caches, the cache information for only the first 32 processors is returned.

Cause

This problem occurs because a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 assumes that there is one non-uniform memory access (NUMA) node per package. However, this assumption is not true for some multichip module processors.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, apply hotfix 978243. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
