Cause

After updating a Windows Server 2008 system with Service Pack 2, the power utilization of the computer remains unchanged when idle.

Resolution

Updating a Windows Server 2008 installation with Service Pack 2 does not overwrite the power policy. Only a new install of the "slip stream" version of Service Pack 2 with the Windows Server 2008 operating system will install the new default power policy.

The new policy can be enabled on systems that performed a Service Pack update by issuing the following commands:


powercfg /setpossiblevalue /sub_processor /procperf 2 binary 640364000000a0860100a08601001e00000032000000
