You cannot restore mirroring for the boot partition on some GPT disks in Windows Server 2008 if you follow the instructions in Knowledge Base article 951985

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You set up software mirroring for the boot partition on some GUID partition table (GPT) disks in Windows Server 2008 by following the instructions described in Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article 951985.
  • One of the mirrored boot partition disks fails. Therefore, you replace the failed disk and try to restore mirroring for the boot partition.
  • You try to configure a secondary boot manager entry for the new disk as described in the "Reestablish the primary boot drive mirror" section.
In this scenario, the boot entries in the Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) nonvolatile RAM (NVRAM) become invalid. Therefore, mirroring is not restored for the boot partition.
