iSCSI Initiator dialog box displays a reconnecting session status after you disconnect and then reconnect the physical connection to the iSCSI target on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have an iSCSI initiator on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista.
  • You configure both IPv4 addresses and IPv6 addresses for servicing storage requests on iSCSI targets.
  • You disconnect and then reconnect the physical connection between the iSCSI initiator and the iSCSI targets.
  • You open the iSCSI Initiator dialog box to check the status of the iSCSI targets.
In this scenario, the status of the iSCSI targets displays a reconnecting session status. Additionally, you cannot access the iSCSI disks because of this issue.

Cause

This issue occurs because the iSCSI initiator uses a target IP address that is incompatible with the connection type. For example, the iSCSI initiator uses an IPv6 address to connect to an IPv4 connection.
