A crash dump file is not generated as expected when you use certain iSCSI network adapters on a Windows Server 2008-based computer

Consider the following scenario:

• You have a Windows Server 2008-based computer that is configured to boot to an iSCSI device.
• The iSCSI network adapter that is used to connect the iSCSI device supports crash dump file generation.
• The system is configured to generate a crash dump file when a fatal system error occurs.
• A fatal system error occurs in the system.

In this scenario, the crash dump file is not generated as expected. This problem occurs only with certain iSCSI network adapters.

This problem occurs because the device register space that is assigned by Windows Server 2008 is not large enough for certain iSCSI network adapters.

Hotfix information

Important Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 hotfixes are included in the same packages. However, only one of these products may be listed on the �Hotfix Request� page. To request the hotfix package that applies to both Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, just select the product that is listed on the page.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article.
