FIX: A Message Disposition Notification (MDN) is not received when the compression feature is enabled for the AS2 adapter in Microsoft BizTalk Server

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • In Microsoft BizTalk Server, you enable the compression feature for Applicability Statement 2 (AS2) messages.

Note To enable the compression feature, check the Compress Message option on the Party as AS2 Message Receiver page of the AS2 Properties dialog box.
  • You receive an AS2 message from your trade partner through the AS2EdiReceive pipeline.

In this scenario, a Message Disposition Notification (MDN) is sent from you to your trade partner. However, your trade partner does not receive the MDN. Instead, the trade partner receives an error message that resembles the following:
Description: MIC not verified # MIC values not verified: <MIC Value>

Note The MDN is an acknowledgement message that is sent in response to an AS2 message. If the compression feature is enabled, the AS2 transmission cannot complete until the MDN is received and is verified.

Cause

This problem occurs because the Message Integrity Check (MIC) values are calculated incorrectly when the compression feature is enabled. Therefore, the MDN is rejected.
