Map data still exists in the MapCache file after you run the "nismap del" command on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 R2 and has Server for Network Information Service (NIS) installed

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have installed the Server for Network Information Service (NIS) on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 R2.
  • You successfully run the nismap del command to delete an existing, nonstandard map entry.
In this scenario, the map entry is removed from the schema. However, the map data still exists in the MapCache file. Therefore, if you run the ypcat command to query the map, the map entry is returned. This occurs even if you run the ypclear command to clear the map from the NIS server cache, and then restart the server.

Note This issue does not occur in Windows Server 2008.
