Time stamps of files on an NFS share are displayed incorrectly on a Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2-based or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario. You copy files from a Linux client to a Network File System (NFS) share on a Windows Server 2003 R2 Service Pack 2 (SP2)-based or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer. However, when you check the time stamps of the files by viewing Windows Explorer or by running thedir /T:C command, the time stamps are displayed incorrectly.

For example, a time stamp may be displayed as 23.11.29951, in which the year is 29951.

Note When you use the ls command, the time stamp is displayed correctly.

Cause

This issue occurs because the Windows NFS server overloads the create time for storing the create verifier. Also, when the value of the create verifier is greater than 2 to the power of 63, the NFS server cannot save the create verifier.

Important Windows 7 hotfixes and Windows Server 2008 R2 hotfixes are included in the same packages. However, hotfixes on the Hotfix Request page are listed under both operating systems.
