Symptom



When you open the Family Safety Filter on a Windows XP-based computer, you receive the following error message:


 “The procedure entry point IsThreadDesktopComposited could not be located in the dynamic link library USER32.dll”

Cause



This issue occurs when the dwmapi.dll has been installed in the Windows\System32 folder.


Note: dwmapi.dll is a Windows Vista file that may have been installed by another application.

Resolution



To resolve this issue, remove the .dll file by following the steps listed below:

  1. Click Start, and then click My Computer.

  2. Double-click the hard disk icon for the drive where Windows is installed.  In most cases this will be C:\.

  3. Double-click the WINDOWS folder, and then double-click the system32 folder.

  4. Browse to the file dwmapi.dll.

  5. Right-click the file, and then click Delete.
