An application that uses the Media Archive Service crashes, and then the audio for some recordings is lost after you restart the application

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

When you run an application that uses the Media Archive Service on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, or Windows Server 2008, the application crashes. After you restart the application, the audio for some recordings is lost. For example, you may encounter the problem in the Live Meeting service.

Cause

This problem occurs because of an access violation in the Media Archive Service process. When the output of the encryption is equal to NULL. NULL is an invalid pointer value, the decryption is skipped. In the next cycle, the encryption process and the decryption process go out of sync. Therefore, the decryption process returns an incorrect pointer. When the code in the Media Archive Service process uses the pointer in this scenario, an unhandled exception occurs.
