Symptoms

While you are using Windows Media Player on a computer that is running a 64-bit version of Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows Server 2008, you remove a USB device from the computer. In this scenario, Windows Media Player may crash. Additionally, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:
Windows Media Player has stopped working
Windows can check online for a solution to the problem
Check online for a solution and close the program
Close the program
Note This problem occurs when you install the 32-bit version of Windows Media Player together with a 64-bit version of Windows Vista SP1 or Windows Server 2008.

Cause

This problem occurs because of an error in the Windows 32-bit on Windows 64-bit (WoW64) marshaling component. This error enables propagation of exceptions through user mode Win32k.sys callbacks and causes Windows Media Player to crash.
