View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server that is running Windows Server 2003 SP2.
  • You run the netsh dhcp server export command to export DHCP configuration to a file. For example, you run the following command to export the DHCP configuration to a local text file:
netsh dhcp server export c:\temp\dhcp.txt all
In this scenario, the command fails. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format.
This command is typically used when you migrate the DHCP configuration from a Windows Server 2003-based server to a Windows Server 2008-based server. This issue makes the migration process fail.

Cause

This issue occurs because a mismatched data type is used when the Netsh.exe utility exports the DHCP server configuration.
