Symptom



This article outlines the support for adding in the following optional components (OC) to different versions of Windows PE

  • .NET Framework
  • Powershell
  • Active Directory Service Interface(ADSI)

Cause



The following versions of Windows PE do not support .NET Framework, Powershell, or Active Directory Service Interface (ADSI) optional components

  • WINPE 1.0 (Based on Windows XP RTM)
  • WINPE 1.1 (Based on Windows XP Service Pack 1)
  • WINPE 1.2 (Based on Windows XP Service Pack 1. Windows Server 2003 may be used with mkimg) 
  • WINPE 2004 or also called WINPE 1.5 (Based on Windows XP Service Pack 2) 
  • WINPE 2005 or also called WINPE 1.6 (Based on Windows Server 2003 SP1)
  • Windows PE 2.0 (Based on Windows Vista)
  • Windows PE 2.1 (Based on Windows Vista SP1/Windows Server 2008)
  • Windows PE 3.0 (Based on Windows Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 R2) 

There is no supported method to add these components to the above versions.


The following versions of Windows PE support adding in the optional components of .NET Framework and Powershell

  • Windows PE 4.0 (Based on Windows 8/Windows Server 2012)
