XPS Viewer crashes when it loads an XPS document that was generated by Microsoft XPS Document Writer on a Windows Vista-based or a Windows Server 2008-based computer

Consider the following scenario:

• You have installed Microsoft Office Word 2007 Service Pack 1 on a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008.
• To generate an XML Paper Specification (XPS) document, you print a Word 2007 document to Microsoft XPS Document Writer.
• The Word document contains an image that has a 3-D frame.
• You try to view the XPS document in XPS Viewer.

In this scenario, XPS Viewer crashes. You can open this XPS document in XPS Viewer Essentials Pack (EP). However, it takes a long time for the XPS document to be loaded.

If the Word document contains an image that has a frame, the XPS generation code generates an XPS document that contains thousands of small image parts. Therefore, when the XPS document is loaded in XPS Viewer, an "out of memory" exception occurs.

Hotfix information

Important Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 hotfixes are included in the same packages. However, only one of these products may be listed on the �Hotfix Request� page. To request the hotfix package that applies to both Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, just select the product that is listed on the page.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. The attributes of these security files are not listed.
