Adding Server Features or Roles in Server 2008 may take a very long time

On Windows Server 2008, when you try to add additional Server Features or Roles via Server Manager, the process may take a very long time.

This will occur when multiple Language Packs are installed on the system by the system manufacturer at ship time.

Some system manufacturers load several Language Packs for their target market so their customers can select the language they need for their own locale.� With Windows Server 2008, any Feature or Role you add will be installed for all installed Language Packs whether or not they are active, and will get updated with all hotfixes that have been applied to your server.

Microsoft is aware of this issue.

To improve system performance while adding Features or Roles, and after selecting the appropriate Language Pack for their locale, administrators may want to uninstall unused Language Packs from Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Keyboards and Languages tab > Install/uninstall languages� > Remove languages.� Administrators will be prompted if a reboot is necessary to complete the process.

Language Packs can be reinstalled if the need to use them arises in the future.
