A WSD printer device displays a truncated IPv6 address in Device Manager and in the Function Discovery Browser utility on a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

On a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, you install a Web Services on Devices (WSD) printer by using a self-assigned IPv6 address. Then, you use the Function Discovery Browser (Fdbrowser.exe) utility to check the WSD printer. However, the IPv6 address that is displayed in the PNPX_IpAddress item is truncated. When you check the WSD printer's properties in Device Manager, you see that the value for Plug and Play Extensions (PnP-X) IP address is also truncated.

In this situation, you can still print to the printer over WSD. However, the printer driver that is provided by the printer manufacturer may be unable to use the truncated value to communicate with the printer through SNMP/HTTP/IP. Therefore, you cannot make full use of the functionality that is provided by the printer driver.
